On August 21st we were able to finally play our tournament games. We started the night with a 7:15 game against St. Francis for second or third place. We were able to score 12 runs in the first inning alone. We then scored one run in the second and three in the third, but were not able to score in the 4th inning, but that is all we needed to beat them 16 to 1. They ended their season in 3rd place.
That gave us second place and a chance to play the First Immanuel Jrs. for first place and the championship. Richie Behling of the Jrs and I where looking at a rematch of last years championship game. We are both very proud of the strength that each of our teams have. It was going to be some the best baseball of the season. Immanuel was the underdog, we needed to beat them not once but twice that night. if we lost, we go home still in second place.
The first inning was scoreless by both teams. We scored 3 runs in the second and 5 in the forth innings, while they scored just 3 in the sixth inning. We beat them the first game 8 to 3. The team had responded to the task at hand and was victorious.
With a short break before our third game of the night, we still needed to find the strength to beat them again. It is always a fantastic game of offense and defense when we play each other. The young speedy players against our seasoned veterans.
We scored 1 run in the first inning, while they came back and scored one in the second inning. A battle of defenses was the highlight of the evening. Both teams came up with one fantastic play after another. They scored 1 run in the third, 2 runs in the forth, 1 run in the fifth and 1 run in the sixth. That was enough for them to win because we struggled to get runners on base after the first inning. We lost to a very good team 6 to 1. Our team played hard all night, we can be very proud of them. We will be displaying our 2nd place plaque in Memorial Hall.
Just as a reminder for all the fans in which helped support the team this season, the softball party is September 6th at my house. Please bring a dish to pass and your favorite lawn chair. The main dish, beer and soda will be provided. Lets get together and discuss the softball season and the upcoming Packer season.
